Grateful for the Grind: In Everything Give Thanks

Pastor Billy Nettles

James 1:2-8 NIV

Consider it pure joy, my brothers and sisters,[a] whenever you face trials of many kinds, because you know that the testing of your faith produces perseverance. Let perseverance finish its work so that you may be mature and complete, not lacking anything. If any of you lacks wisdom, you should ask God, who gives generously to all without finding fault, and it will be given to you. But when you ask, you must believe and not doubt, because the one who doubts is like a wave of the sea, blown and tossed by the wind. That person should not expect to receive anything from the Lord. Such a person is double-minded and unstable in all they do.

Hebrews 12:2 NIV

fixing our eyes on Jesus, the pioneer and perfecter of faith. For the joy set before him he endured the cross, scorning its shame, and sat down at the right hand of the throne of God.

1. We work from victory, not for victory.

1 Thessalonians 5:16-19 AMP

16 Rejoice always and delight in your faith; 17 be unceasing and persistent in prayer; 18 in every situation [no matter what the circumstances] be thankful and continually give thanks to God; for this is the will of God for you in Christ Jesus. 19 Do not quench [subdue, or be unresponsive to the working and guidance of] the [Holy] Spirit.

Proverbs 16:9 NIV

In their hearts humans plan their course,
but the Lord establishes their steps.

2. God knows the way that He is taking you. He is the Good Shepherd.

18:1 Luke NIV

Then Jesus told his disciples a parable to show them that they should always pray and not give up.

Philippians 4:4 NIV

Rejoice in the Lord always. I will say it again: Rejoice!

3. Gratitude is what grounds us in the grind.
