Jesus’s Final Words – April 27, 2025

Pastor Jeremy Mayol

Revelation 22:20-21 (CSB)
20 He who testifies about these things says, “Yes, I am coming soon.” Amen! Come, Lord Jesus! 21 The grace of the Lord Jesus be with everyone. Amen.

2 Peter 3:3-13 (CSB)
3 Above all, be aware of this: Scoffers will come in the last days scoffing and following their own evil desires, 4 saying, “Where is his ‘coming’ that he promised? Ever since our ancestors fell asleep, all things continue as they have been since the beginning of creation.” 5 They deliberately overlook this: By the word of God the heavens came into being long ago and the earth was brought about from water and through water. 6 Through these the world of that time perished when it was flooded. 7 By the same word, the present heavens and earth are stored up for fire, being kept for the day of judgment and destruction of the ungodly. 8 Dear friends, don’t overlook this one fact: With the Lord one day is like a thousand years, and a thousand years like one day. 9 The Lord does not delay his promise, as some understand delay, but is patient with you, not wanting any to perish but all to come to repentance. 10 But the day of the Lord will come like a thief; on that day the heavens will pass away with a loud noise, the elements will burn and be dissolved, and the earth and the works on it will be disclosed. 11 Since all these things are to be dissolved in this way, it is clear what sort of people you should be in holy conduct and godliness 12 as you wait for the day of God and hasten its coming. Because of that day, the heavens will be dissolved with fire and the elements will melt with heat. 13 But based on his promise, we wait for new heavens and a new earth, where righteousness dwells.

Three Kinds of Christians Anticipating the End Times

1. Obsessive

Matthew 24:36 (CSB)
36 Now concerning that day and hour no one knows—neither the angels of heaven
nor the Son—except the Father alone.

2. Oblivious

1 Thessalonians 4:13 (CSB)
13 We do not want you to be uninformed, brothers and sisters, concerning those who
are asleep, so that you will not grieve like the rest, who have no hope.

3. Optimistic

1 Thessalonians 5:2,11 (CSB)
2 For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come just like a thief in the night.

11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.

Three Ways to Prepare for Jesus’s Second Coming:

1. Watch (for His Return)

Matthew 24:30-31 (CSB)
30 Then the sign of the Son of Man will appear in the sky, and then all the peoples of the earth will mourn; and they will see the Son of Man coming on the clouds of heaven with power and great glory. 31 He will send out his angels with a loud trumpet, and they will gather his elect from the four winds, from one end of the sky to the other.

Revelation 1:3 (CSB)
3 Blessed is the one who reads aloud the words of this prophecy, and blessed are those who hear the words of this prophecy and keep what is written in it, because the time is near.

I Thessalonians 4:16-18 (CSB)
16 For the Lord himself will descend from heaven with a shout, with the archangel’s voice, and with the trumpet of God, and the dead in Christ will rise first. 17 Then we who are still alive, who are left, will be caught up together with them in the clouds to meet the Lord in the air, and so we will always be with the Lord. 18 Therefore encourage one another with these words.

2. Work (until His Return)

John 9:4-5 (CSB)
4 We must do the works of him who sent me while it is day. Night is coming when no one can work. 5 As long as I am in the world, I am the light of the world.

3. Wait (on His Return)

James 5:7-8 (CSB)
7 Therefore, brothers and sisters, be patient until the Lord’s coming. See how the farmer waits for the precious fruit of the earth and is patient with it until it receives the early and the late rains. 8 You also must be patient. Strengthen your hearts, because the Lord’s coming is near.

1 Thessalonians 5:2,6,8-11 (CSB)
2 For you yourselves know very well that the day of the Lord will come just like a
thief in the night.

6 So then, let us not sleep, like the rest, but let us stay awake and be self-controlled.

8 But since we belong to the day, let us be self-controlled and put on the armor of faith and love, and a helmet of the hope of salvation. 9 For God did not appoint us to wrath, but to obtain salvation through our Lord Jesus Christ, 10 who died for us, so that whether we are awake or asleep, we may live together with him. 11 Therefore encourage one another and build each other up as you are already doing.
